FIFO suicides and mental health have made news headlines more often than not recently; the high pressure and long hours are taking a terrible toll on many Australians.
Although the tragedies have been confronting, the importance of mental health has been brought to light.
For the past 30 years, Even Keel Support Association has been helping those with mental illness by providing support and information services for individuals and families.
Even Keel Support Association is dedicated to providing mutual support and self-help to those with mental illness, from the diagnosis stage onwards.
Even Keel strives to help those with mental illness develop skills and abilities to maximise their capacity to live in the community. Working alongside the individual Group Facilitators endeavour to help people identify and develop new skills, if necessary, building personal resilience and confidence to enable a satisfying life.
The community-based organisation provides group-based services led by volunteers who have first-hand experience of living with mental illness.
The information sessions and activities are not only open to individuals living with mental illness, but also their friends, family, carers and colleagues.
The association also provides support through an extensive resource centre and library in its East Perth location.
